The Italian version of Dennis Patterson’s Law and Truth (edited by Maurizio Manzin) is now available! L&T is one of the most remarkable books on jurisprudence and legal theory published in the last years. Addressing the basic question “What does it mean to say that a proposition of law is true?” Patterson deals with leading contemporary approaches to jurisprudence and advances a major new account of truth in law.
Patterson’s theory on legal truth is expecially based on later Wittgenstein’s studies about linguistic practice. His detailed account on the forms of argumentation in legal justification deeply connects concrete legal practice with scholars’ works in the field of legal philosophy, according to the classical idea of rethorics as a way of finding ‘what sounds’ (as true) in the context.
The volume includes a broad editor’s preface (”The Rethoric Truth of Law”, pp. ix-li) and an introduction to the Italian edition by Dennis Patterson.
